题目:The 2nd Quantum Revolution and Future Supercomputers

摘要:The "Digital Revolution" that transformed our lives and our economy is based on the ubiquity of information-processing devices whose processing power increased exponentially for many decades, following Moore's law. As this trend is approaching fundamental physical limits, new directions are explored for even more powerful computational devices based on quantum mechanical systems. Such devices can solve problems that will remain out of reach for conventional computers. The main difficulty for their implementation is the fragility of information stored in suitable physical systems that obey the laws of quantum mechanics. While new posible applications of these technologies are coming up quickly, there are still many hurdles that must be overcome to make these devices ready for practical applications.

 

简历:Professor Dieter Suter received his PhD from ETH Zurich in 1985 for work on the dynamics of nuclear spins in solids. After a postdoctoral position at UC Berkeley, he moved into quantum optics at ETH Zurich, where he studied atomic multilevel systems. From 1995 to 2023, he was a full professor (C4) at the TU Dortmund University and was Dean of Physics Department from 1997 to 1999. Currently he is the Master Chair Professor at the University of Science and Technology of China. His current research concentrates on nuclear magnetic resonance, geometric phases in quantum mechanics, laser-assisted magnetic resonance, quantum information, medical physics and electron spin resonance sensitivity enhancement.
